Most people will have their hearing checked through the traditional means of presenting a series of tones into the ears and responding when they hear something.

We can take it one step further.  We are able to assess your ability to hear speech.  Let’s face it, that’s the sound that we listen to day in and day out.   It’s the spoken word that allows us to communicate and it's the spoken word that counts.  This is an extremely informative test for children and adults alike.  We often use it where a teacher has expressed concerns about a child's ability to hear in class and always use this for the fitting of hearing aids and adult aural rehabilitation.  It allows us to accurately assess an individuals ability to discriminate speech and then advise accordingly.

We are also able to measure a person's ability to discriminate speech with various levels of background noise - a common concern.  We believe in speech audiometry and speech in noise testing and use these tests routinely, wherever indicated.  It is this attention to detail and the importance of speech discrimination tests that allow us to correct mistakes often made in the fitting of hearing aids.
