Ears Enter The 3rd Dimension

There are very few inventions that change the world. The mobile phone, the computer and now the world of hearing aids may change. On the horizon is a revolutionary new technology, the 3D Ear Canal Scan. Check out the clip below to see how the new scanning system could help improve the fit of your hearing aids. It could mean less whistling and more comfort. Time will tell.

The Mighty Mo Update

There have been having a number of requests over the last week asking for a Movember Update. Requests from friends, family, staff, clients and people just wanting a good laugh. So here goes.......

I have been proudly sporting my Mo in many venues this weekend. Firstly, I decided that my mo needed to get in shape, so I took it for a run.

A cross country run of 5 miles took its toll and the Mo was pooped.

In the afternoon I decided the Mo needed a treat, so off to the football I took it and even the mascot was joining in the Movember spirit.

Brian on the other hand took a different approach, rest and relaxation were the order of the day, a leisurely stroll, a hearty meal and a glass of warming red to top off the exertions of the day. "Carrying a beast of a Mo around all week takes so much effort, the Mo and I need some rest and recuperation time." he said.

So as we enter the final week, we hope that people will still donate to this worthy cause, support Hearing Matters on The Movember UK website and pledge a small amount if you can.

Widex World Rally Championship

It was touch and go as to whether Widex Managing Director, Mr Jon Billings and Regional Sales Representative Fahmidah Davey would make it to their meeting with Peter and Brian at the Knutsford office. The Widex team spent a very busy day at the British Academy of Audiology Conference in Llandudno, North Wales. Timings had been carefully scrutinised to the second so that they left the coastal resort to arrive in Cheshire as planned. However, matters were plunged into chaos when they exited the conference centre,on to the promenade, to find the start of the British round of the World Rally Championship.

Undaunted, they set off through the crowds and managed to negotiate their way through the throngs. It must be said that the mode of transport they chose was rather unorthodox.

Eventually the did make it to Knutsford safely and it has to be said, exactly on time.

The first topic of conversation was right under our noses, the Movember Moustache. Jon, could not wait to share his opinion " After seeing the photographs online and sponsoring the Hearing Matters team myself and Fahmidah decided to call in and check on Brian and Peter's progress in the flesh, the guys don't look to scary at this stage!  It's a great cause and we are happy to support them and we even have some of the Widex team joining in back in our Chester office."

Hearing Matters would like to thank Widex for their very generous contribution made to such a worthy charity.

This was Jon's first visit to the centre and we think he found it a pleasant experience, he said "The centre is fantastic, the company really is setting a high standard of practice and creating a comfortable environment for patients to visit."

Movember - Raising Funds for Prostate Cancer

Throughout the month of November, Peter and Brian will each try and grow a moustache. The aim is to raise money to fund research in to Prostate and Testicular Cancer. Here we are at the start of the process, free from facial hair.

We will also be updating people through Twitter, you can follow us @hearingmatters

The boys growing the moustaches are know as Mo Bros. The girls supporting them are know as Mo Sistas. So below we have posted the efforts so far.

Mission Unitron

A month ago Unitron Hearing Managing Director, Chris Auty, announced that they would be opening their doors on Saturday mornings to support dispensers and their customers. November 5th was the day chosen to set the industry on fire, to light the blue touch paper, retreat to a safe distance and watch the fireworks. This commitment to support dispensers with extended opening hours is a major step forward in UK hearing care.

Peter and Brian wanted to make sure that they were true to their word. Mission Unitron was hastily arranged. Watches synchronised, rations packed and secrecy paramount. The 10am rendezvous was perfectly timed and entry through the heavily fortified doors was simple for explosives expert Unsworth, akin to the Italian Job. The stairs to the office were unguarded and we met no resistance entering the main office. This is when we found the truth, the real truth.

The staff from Unitron were there, beavering away, answering calls, providing advice and taking orders. Saturday support for hearing aid dispensers really does exist.

The Hearing Matters Team would like to thank everyone at Unitron for their kind hospitality. Brian says he will pop back next week with a screwdriver to fix the doors.
